P2P Node.js Engineer - Holepunch (100% Remote, Worldwide)

You'll join Tether's engineering team to work on Holepunch, a peer-to-peer technology platform built with Node.js. In this fully remote role, you'll help build and strengthen the core networking and storage systems that power the platform's P2P infrastructure during its next growth phase.

What you'll do

• Develop and optimize peer-to-peer networking primitives and protocols, working with systems like Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, and hypercore
• Write high-performance JavaScript code to implement robust P2P networking functionality
• Design and implement custom binary protocols and serialization formats for network communication
• Optimize network protocols for performance and efficiency, including profiling and benchmarking production systems
• Implement cryptographic primitives to secure peer-to-peer communications
• Handle complex networking challenges including NAT traversal and reliable communication across unreliable networks

What you'll bring

• Advanced JavaScript expertise applied to high-performance networking applications
• Deep technical knowledge of UDP, TCP/IP networking, and how to work around network constraints
• Extensive hands-on experience with peer-to-peer protocols and distributed systems
• Proven ability to profile, benchmark, and optimize networked systems for low-latency performance
• Strong grasp of cryptographic principles as they apply to secure peer-to-peer systems
• Excellent English communication skills to collaborate effectively in a global environment

Nice to have

• Five or more years building production peer-to-peer or distributed systems
• Familiarity with V8 internals and JavaScript performance characteristics
• Background working with libuv and asynchronous I/O in C
• Public contributions to open-source networking or P2P projects
• Experience developing Node.js native addons and bridging JavaScript with C code
