As a Product Designer in the Growth team, you'll play a central role in making artificial intelligence accessible and valuable to startups, small businesses, and growing organizations using ChatGPT. Design is fundamental to OpenAI's work—it transforms sophisticated AI capabilities into experiences that people trust and rely on. This is an individual contributor role that combines hands-on design excellence with strong product thinking and a willingness to test ideas rapidly and learn from real usage patterns.

What you'll do

• Own the complete design of growth experiences across ChatGPT, spanning user discovery, onboarding, activation, engagement, collaboration, conversion, and retention stages.

• Transform vague opportunities into well-developed hypotheses, interactive prototypes, and polished final experiences.

• Set high standards across interaction design, visual quality, design systems, content strategy, and overall coherence.

• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data scientists, researchers, and go-to-market specialists to guide both strategic direction and hands-on execution.

• Leverage quantitative experimentation, research, and qualitative feedback to uncover opportunities and assess results.

• Communicate complex AI capabilities in ways that feel natural to people with varying levels of technical knowledge.

• Balance strategic product vision with quick iterative cycles.

• Build reusable design patterns and knowledge that enhance growth work across the platform.

What you'll bring

• A portfolio showing exceptional product design judgment, interaction design skill, and visual polish on complex products that shipped to real users.

• Demonstrated success leading significant product initiatives from early conception through launch and ongoing refinement.

• Strong product judgment that integrates user needs, business objectives, technical constraints, and measurable outcomes.

• Comfort working with data and running experiments while knowing when to trust research, intuition, and design thinking alongside metrics.

• Ability to move quickly while maintaining clarity, coherence, trustworthiness, and craft.

• Familiarity using AI tools to explore ideas, create prototypes, communicate concepts, and expand your creative output.

• Skill at taking unclear, fast-changing problems and developing a clear perspective and actionable direction.

• Strong communication through narratives and prototypes that bring cross-functional teams into alignment.

• Genuine interest in rethinking how growth works in an AI context and designing interactions that feel native to AI.
