About the role

Bitpanda is a Vienna-based investment platform founded in 2014 that serves over 7 million customers across Europe. The company enables people to invest in cryptocurrencies, stocks, precious metals, and commodities through a user-friendly interface available 24/7. Operating with a truly global team, Bitpanda has established itself as one of Europe's most secure and trusted platforms for modern investing.

The company combines rapid innovation with a collaborative culture that values diverse perspectives and actionable problem-solving. As Bitpanda continues to expand its European operations, it attracts talented professionals who want to work at the intersection of fintech, compliance, and cutting-edge technology. The organization prioritizes both impact and employee wellbeing, creating an environment where talented individuals can grow while contributing to the future of accessible investing.

You will join Bitpanda's Legal, Compliance and Risk team as an Associate focused on Anti-Financial Crime compliance. Rather than handling routine customer onboarding tasks, you'll work at the intersection of regulatory requirements, data engineering, and operational automation to strengthen the company's defenses against financial crime across its European operations.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain interactive compliance dashboards and monitoring systems that track risk metrics, alert volumes, service-level agreement performance, and regulatory reporting requirements for Compliance and Senior Leadership stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular quantitative testing of existing Anti-Financial Crime controls, including AML, CTF, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring systems, identifying coverage gaps, false-positive patterns, and operational inefficiencies while supporting the design and rollout of new data-driven controls.
  • Engineer automated solutions to replace manual workflows within the AFC team, including implementing AI agents, large language model workflows, and low-code automations to streamline investigations, data extraction, and compliance decisioning.
  • Query complex financial datasets to extract risk insights, identify transactional patterns, and perform root-cause analysis on control failures or suspicious activity trends.
  • Partner with Product, Tech, Data, and Operations teams to translate regulatory requirements into functional technical specifications and ensure seamless deployment of automated control updates.

What you'll bring

  • A degree in Data Analytics, Business Informatics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field that combines analytical thinking with interest in regulatory risk.
  • Hands-on experience extracting, manipulating, and visualizing structured data, with strong proficiency in SQL (including Snowflake SQL) and demonstrated expertise in dashboarding tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Metabase.
  • Demonstrated experience or practical knowledge in process automation using Python scripts, APIs, or workflow tools, along with familiarity building or deploying AI agents and large language model workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • Understanding of Anti-Financial Crime concepts, control testing frameworks, or risk-scoring mechanics, ideally gained within banking, fintech, cryptocurrency, or payment services operating under EU or Austrian regulations.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with German proficiency as a strong advantage.

Nice to have

  • Background in cryptocurrency or blockchain compliance environments.
  • Experience working with European regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.

What they offer

  • Hybrid work model with 25 additional days per year to work remotely from anywhere globally, plus flexibility to work from home or office based on your preferences.
  • Competitive total compensation aligned with Bitpanda's impact-focused pay structure, including stock options.
  • Mental health support through OpenUP, providing confidential coaching and counselling resources.
  • Three additional paid days off annually (after 6 months) dedicated to wellbeing and recharging, on top of standard annual leave.
  • Unlimited access to Udemy for continuous professional development and skill growth.
  • Up to eight additional weeks of gender-neutral parental leave to support major life milestones.
  • Free onsite meals and snacks at Bitpanda offices in Vienna, Bucharest, Barcelona, and Berlin.
