Roles on our board in Berlin
Good to know
- Social insurance comes off first: pension 9.3%, unemployment 1.3%, health about 8.75% and care 1.8–2.4% of pay, each up to a yearly ceiling. Your employer pays about the same again.
- Health insurance uses the 2026 average extra rate (2.9%); your own fund may charge a little more or less. Above €77,400 a year you may choose private health insurance instead, which this calculator does not cover.
- Married uses joint assessment (splitting) and assumes your spouse has no income. Child benefit and child allowances are not included; “Have children” only lowers the care insurance rate.
- This is the yearly tax after filing a return. Monthly payslips use tax classes and can withhold slightly more or less; the difference comes back or is due with the return.
- Freelancers (Freiberufler) are taxed differently and pay their own health and pension insurance; not included.
- Tax year. Income earned in 2026.
Questions people ask
How much is €80,000 after tax in Berlin?
About €48,035 a year, or €4,003 a month (single employee, no children, no church tax). That is after Pension insurance €7,440, Unemployment insurance €1,040, Health insurance €6,103, Long-term care insurance €1,674, Income tax €15,708. Income earned in 2026.
Is this what my payslip will show?
Close to it. Payslips withhold by tax class (class I if single, III/V or IV if married), so each month can differ a little; the yearly tax return settles the difference, which is the figure shown here.
Are token grants included?
No. Tokens or equity received for work are usually taxed as income when you receive them or when they vest, at their value then. Rules differ, so check your own grant with a local tax adviser.
