Product Manager

Exa is building the search engine purpose-built for artificial intelligence applications. Their Search API currently serves AI agents, Fortune 500 enterprises, and research labs at scale. The company is a tightly knit team of roughly 150 people based primarily in San Francisco, drawing talent from institutions like Harvard and MIT, as well as engineering leaders from Meta, Google Research, and founders who have taken the leap into this venture.

Exa's product organization is intentionally lean and structured around concrete outcomes: accelerating user growth, deepening developer adoption, executing successful launches, and sharpening company-wide prioritization. The team believes in moving quickly and measuring impact directly.

What you'll do

• Own the complete roadmap, strategy, and success metrics for new products that build on top of the core Exa Search API platform
• Spend approximately half your time working directly with strategic customers—watching how they integrate the product, identifying friction points, and translating their needs into new features
• Define and track metrics across quality, coverage, cost, and speed to guide what gets built next
• Collaborate across product marketing, sales, and field teams to coordinate launches, including decisions around pricing, packaging, documentation, and customer enablement

What you'll bring

• Two to eight-plus years of product management experience, specifically building technical or developer-facing products
• A strong technical foundation through a computer science or electrical engineering degree, production engineering background, or equivalent depth developed through hands-on work
• Excellent written communication skills that translate complex ideas into clear narratives
• Comfort working directly alongside engineering teams—reading code, reviewing specifications, testing integrations, and prototyping solutions using AI tools

Nice to have

• Early-stage startup experience or founding background
• Prior experience as a technical product manager
