Market Expansion Manager

Rain operates with a flat structure where team members at all levels can grow into roles aligned with their goals and shape the company's roadmap. The Market Expansion Manager role sits within the Go To Market team and focuses on launching local financial products in target geographies. You will be part of a small, specialized team that operates like a SWAT unit, working directly across Product, Legal, Compliance, and Go To Market functions. This is a hands-on position requiring significant in-person time in each market you launch.

What you'll do

• Spend substantial time on the ground in each target market, managing end-to-end market launches from the initial entry decision through to stable local operations.

• Work directly with the legal team to navigate regulatory and licensing requirements for each geography where Rain expands.

• Design and execute the operationalization strategy specific to each market, determining how Rain's technology, team, and systems deploy locally.

• Identify and remove blockers that could delay market launches.

• Drive a 100-day launch plan for each market, including workstream sequencing, reporting cadence, and escalation paths.

• Source and hire key local leadership, typically a country lead and their first few team members, coaching them through their early tenure.

• Spot gaps and missing requirements before they become critical problems, including licensing needs and compliance remediations.

• Continuously improve and refine the market expansion playbook.

What you'll bring

• Five to seven years in strategy consulting, private equity operations, or operating roles within regulated fintech or payments businesses.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing formal documents and representing Rain in high-stakes meetings with regulators, investors, and partners.

• Business and technical acumen to navigate complex, cross-functional workstreams including pricing, technology, legal, and compliance.

• Proven experience managing complex projects to completion without direct authority over task owners.

• Practical, results-oriented approach that delivers high output quickly despite obstacles.

• Intellectual curiosity to dive deep into technical topics and find solutions when answers are unclear.

• Genuine interest in traveling and spending significant time in person in new markets to launch products, build teams, and solve problems.

• Native or fluent English proficiency.

• Based in New York or Madrid, or willing to relocate.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with regulatory approval processes, market expansion, or post-merger integration.

• Background in payments, card issuing, e-money, or banking as an operator, regulator, adviser, or network participant.

• Track record of expanding a business into new geographies and bringing products live in new jurisdictions.

• Knowledge of payment and crypto regulatory landscapes.

• Familiarity with stablecoins and how blockchain technology interfaces with traditional payments systems.
