IT Systems Engineer

Anthropic's Data, Technology & Systems team is looking for an IT Systems Engineer to join our Public Sector IT group in Washington, DC. You'll design and operate secure, scalable infrastructure for a fast-paced organization that works with leading enterprises and government agencies. This is a hands-on role where you'll architect automation across identity management, endpoint controls, and our SaaS ecosystem while meeting rigorous federal compliance standards.

Your day-to-day work includes

• Administering our tech stack: Okta, GCC High, Azure Government, Opal, Slack, Jamf, Jira, and related platforms
• Supporting the IT Services team with escalated technical issues and complex implementations
• Designing and maintaining zero-trust controls including device posture, network segmentation, and conditional access policies
• Building Okta Workflows and lightweight automation services to handle employee joiner-mover-leaver workflows, access reviews, and account deprovisioning
• Partnering with Security and Compliance teams on audit deliverables like System Security Plans, Plans of Action and Milestones, and NIST 800-53/171 control mappings
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation for IT teams and end users
• Owning change management processes in regulated environments, including Change Advisory Board records, rollback procedures, and validation

You bring at least 5 years of IT systems or infrastructure engineering experience, with solid hands-on knowledge of SaaS platform administration. You've integrated SaaS APIs and SDKs, worked with identity platforms like Okta using SAML, OIDC, and SCIM, and can script in Python, PowerShell, or bash. Federal compliance frameworks matter to you—you understand IL6, FedRAMP High, and CMMC 2.0 control families and how they translate into actual IT configurations. Experience working within SCIFs is required.

Nice to have

• An IT security and compliance mindset
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform providers for Okta, Jamf, or Azure
• Active Secret or TS/SCI clearance
