Staff Engineer, Full Stack (Trust, Safety & Risk)

Phantom is a wallet and financial platform used by tens of millions of people globally to access open markets including perpetuals, prediction markets, and tokenized assets. The company partners with major names like Hyperliquid, Stripe, and Visa to democratize access to financial products. You'd be joining a 180-person fully remote team backed by $150M in Series C funding from a16z, Sequoia Capital, and Paradigm.

As a Staff Engineer in Trust, Safety & Risk, you'll own the systems that protect Phantom's users, products, and platform. This is a full-stack role spanning detection, prevention, and response across fraud, abuse, identity verification, and compliance. You'll work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations with real autonomy to shape how the team grows.

Your day-to-day work will include

• Building real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for ACH transfers, debit cards, onramps, and other money movement features.

• Developing fraud signals, machine learning models, and product interventions to identify malicious wallets, transactions, and user behavior.

• Designing and scaling KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, and audit infrastructure.

• Creating data pipelines and intelligence tools that combine on-chain activity, product data, and third-party signals into actionable insights.

• Partnering with product and engineering teams to bake safety into new features without compromising user experience.

• Building internal tools for Risk, Compliance, Support, and Security teams to investigate incidents and respond quickly.

• Establishing technical foundations and engineering culture for this new function at Phantom.

You'll bring 8+ years of full-time software engineering experience with a strong track record designing and operating reliable, data-intensive production systems. You have solid product judgment and can balance user experience against financial risk and operational complexity. Experience working across the stack is essential. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is required. Familiarity with fraud prevention, risk systems, identity verification, KYC, AML, sanctions, payments, or blockchain is a major plus.
