Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Helius is building the foundational infrastructure layer for Solana, helping thousands of development teams from startups to major players like Coinbase and Phantom deploy crypto-native applications. This Senior Backend Engineer role puts you in charge of one of Helius's core systems - Gatekeeper, Data Streaming, Historical APIs, or Account Index. These aren't peripheral services; they sit in the critical path of Solana's infrastructure, handling extreme performance demands at real-world scale. You'll own your domain end-to-end, shape technical direction, make architectural decisions with lasting impact, and work directly with founders and engineering leadership.

Your day-to-day work includes

• Designing and shipping performance-critical products that reshape how developers build on Solana
• Profiling, benchmarking, and optimizing production systems for latency and throughput
• Making architectural and product decisions alongside staff engineers and founders
• Strengthening operational practices across observability, incident response, and system reliability
• Coaching junior engineers and raising the technical bar for the team

We're looking for someone with 5+ years shipping production backend systems at scale. You have deep systems-level intuition - you know what's happening beneath the abstractions. Rust is strongly preferred, though C++ or Go work too. You've debugged and optimized latency-sensitive or high-throughput systems before. You own problems end-to-end with minimal hand-holding and hold yourself to an exceptionally high standard. You've worked in engineering cultures where operational excellence, reliability, and customer impact aren't nice-to-haves.

Bonus experience includes deep Rust in production environments, distributed systems or storage engines, profiling tools like flamegraphs and perf, on-call responsibilities, and a mix of large and small company backgrounds.
