Staff Data Engineer

This Staff Data Engineer role sits on the Data Platform team in London, where you'll lead the technical direction of systems powering analytics, integrations, machine learning, and product insights across the organization.

What you'll do

• Set and evolve technical direction for the data platform across streaming, batch processing, warehousing, orchestration, governance, and machine learning enablement
• Lead design and delivery of complex cross-team initiatives from architecture through implementation
• Build core platform capabilities: reliable real-time pipelines, shared tooling, reusable frameworks, and scalable infrastructure for other teams
• Establish golden paths that enable teams to build securely, consistently, and efficiently
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency as data volumes grow
• Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Engineering to meet operational and regulatory requirements
• Mentor senior engineers and raise technical capability through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration
• Influence technical priorities by working closely with engineering managers, product managers, and senior leaders

What you'll bring

• Significant experience designing and evolving large-scale data platforms and distributed stream processing systems
• Deep knowledge of real-time and event-driven architectures using Kafka or Pub/Sub
• Track record leading complex technical initiatives spanning multiple teams or domains
• Experience building platform capabilities and shared services that other teams adopt
• Strong judgement across reliability, scalability, performance, governance, security, and cost management
• Ability to move between high-level architectural decisions and hands-on implementation
• Experience influencing engineers and stakeholders around shared technical standards
• Team-first approach with passion for mentoring and raising the technical bar
• Experience working in a regulated environment or designing systems with strong compliance requirements

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with GCP, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Apache Beam, Airflow, Bigtable, Redis, Kubernetes, or Terraform
• Proficiency in Python and SQL

What We Offer

• Base salary: 260,000 to 274,000 USD
• Hybrid work arrangement in London
